In 2008, Barry won the under-18 boy's title at the National Junior Tennis Championships and the ITF U-18 boys' singles title in Tallinn, Estonia. This was his first ITF under-18 title following defeats in the finals of similar events in Qatar and Turkmenistan the previour year. Barry had a strong finish to 2008, winning both the Semen Gresik Widjojo Soejono Junior Championships in Surabaya and the Solo Open International Junior Championships in Java in November. in the final. Throughout 2010, he competed in the Boys Singles at the Australian Open, French Open and U.S. Open. His 2nd round defeat to Damir Dzumhur at the U.S. Open was to be his last match in the under-18 category. As a junior player, Barry reached a career-high ranking of 60th in the world U-18 boys' singles.
In 2010 Džumhur played in twelve tournaments, four of which he claimed. That includes the triumph in the U–18 European Championships in Klosters, after beating

In August 2010 Džumhur won bronze medal in singles event at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore, thanks to a two set win over Victor Baluda, where he was also a country representative during the Opening Ceremony, as a flag bearer for Bosnia and Herzegovina. That year he appeared in his only three junior Grand Slam events, where he achieved a Second Round finish at the Roland Garros, a Quarterfinal finish at the Wimbledon Championships and a Third Round finish at the US Open in singles competitions and also a Quarterfinal, Second Round and Quarterfinal finish in doubles, respectively. In July 2010 Džumhur was placed third on the ITF World Ranking, he finished this year with 40 singles wins and 8 loses, and eventually closed the season one position lower.
