Examples of "dedimunda"
Giruwa Ambalama (Sinhala:ගිරුවා අම්බලම) is a historic wayside rest beside the Aluth Nuwara Dedimunda Devalaya site built by Queen Sunetradevi chief consort of King Parakramabahu II (A.D 1236-1276) and mother of King Bhuvanekabahu I.The pillars remaining at the site are supposed to be belonging to the period of King Bhuvanekabahu I.It has been conserved by the Archaeological department at least three times.
A recent addition to the temple is a set of murals, that adorn the inner walls of the shrine hall ("Budu-Ge"). These murals which were painted by artist Somabandu Vidyapathy, depict in different strokes the life of the Buddha and Buddhism. In addition to the main shrine hall there are shrines dedicated to popular deities of Sri Lanka such as Vishnu, Katharagama, Saman, Vibheeshana, Suniam, Dedimunda, Natha and Pattini Matha, housing their symbolic images. These shrines which are situated right round the Bodhi tree, also depicts the architecture of Polonnaruwa period.
Attached to the western wall of the shrine complex are shrines dedicated Kali, Pattini, Managaradevio, Dedimunda and Suniyam. Outside the temple yard and beyond the northern gate lies the shrine to Teyvanai, the consort of Murugan. Teyvanai shrine is managed by the Sankara Mutt from Sringeri in Karnataka, India. The shrine dedicated to Valli, the consort of the main deity lies in front of the mosque. Close to the Valli shrine is a Kadamba tree that is sacred to Murugan. Within the mosque are number of tombs of Muslim holy men. There is also a separate shrine dedicated to the tomb of Kalayangiri swamy known amongst Tamils as Mutuligaswamy kovil. It is also known as the "Siva Devale".
