"Attarintiki Daredi" was launched on 23 November 2012 at Venkateswara temple in Film Nagar. The film was reported to be on the lines of "Nuvvu Naaku
" (2001) for which Trivikram Srinivas wrote the dialogues and the story. Trivikram Srinivas further hinted that the script will depict the Telugu culture and traditions with a strong message. Prasad Murella handled the cinematography and few sequences were shot using a Milo robotic camera which B. V. S. N. Prasad brought in from Mumbai as it was unavailable in Hyderabad. In mid July 2013, the title was confirmed to be "Attarintiki Daredi".

". The film featured Vijay and Sneha in the leading roles, while Vadivelu, Nassar and Manivannan played other pivotal roles. The film released on 15 January 2003 to positive reviews and was a commercial hit. It was later dubbed in Hindi as "Ek Aur Loafer". The Telugu movie was also remade into Bengali titled, "Majnu",directed by Rajib Biswas, starring Hiran Chatterjee, Srabanti Chatterjee.

Venkatesh and Ram were the first persons who were signed for this film in 2012. This film marks the third collaboration of Venkatesh with Vijaya Bhaskar after "Nuvvu Naaku
" and "Malliswari". Venkatesh would sport a twirled moustache in the same way which he was last seen in Gautham Menon's Gharshana. Later Anjali and Shazahn Padamsee were roped to play the siblings of Ram and Venkatesh in the film respectively. This film marked the second film of Anjali with Venkatesh after "Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu", which was also a multistarrer film. It also marked the second film of Bollywood Actress Shazahn Padamsee after the 2010 film "Orange". During the Thai Schedule of the film, Ram learnt Muay Thai, a famous boxing technique in Thailand. Jaya Prakash Reddy, Ali, M. S. Narayana and Kovai Sarala were roped in to play important roles in the film.
