People who migrated to Edakkara followed the rules and regulations of thamburan (Ruler of the Nilambur) of Nilabur Kovilakam in spite of the religious and cultural differences. Kannan, out of grief and anger, takes Thamara's life by suffocating her with a pillow. Within a short time, Jagan gets involved in the problems of the villagers and they started considering him to the heir of the palace and their leader. In the midst of this, Nayanthara (Priya Raman), a close friend of Jagan, reaches Kanimangalam from Bangalore. She expresses her desire to marry Jagan, which he declines, saying that he is now in love with Unnimaya. Nayanthara accepts his decision and goes back wishing him all the best for the future. According to the customs of the village, the festival puja should be done under a head priest from Keezhpayoor Mana, but when Appan Thamburan interferes, the members from Keezhpayoor refuses to conduct the puja, which makes Jagan to forcefully take the younger namboothiri (Kalabhavan Mani) from away from home on way back.
For the first 600 years of the Malayalam calendar, Malayalam literature remained in a preliminary stage. During this time, Malayalam literature consisted mainly of various genres of songs ("Pattu"). The most prominent among these were songs praising the goddesses of the land, ballads of brave warriors, songs related to the work of a particular caste and songs intended just for entertainment. "Bhadrakali pattu, thottam pattu,Mappila pattu, mavaratham pattu, sasthanga pattu, nizhalkoothu pattu, sarpa pattu, sastham pattu, thiyyattu pattu, pulluvar pattu, mannar pattu, panar pattu, krishi pattu, thamburan pattu, pada pattu, villadichan pattu, onappattu, kummi" and lullaby were some of the major subgenres. These names were not used historically, but are used in modern times to describe the song genres of that time.

Samoothiri was a contemporary of Melppathur & Poonthanam, and saw both of them during his lifetime. He got the source to write Krishnageethi after getting a peacock feather, believed to be that of Lord Krishna himself. He is also the founder of the art form Krishnanattam, which is based on Krishnageethi. Kottarakkara Thamburan, inspired of this, made a new art form called Ramanattam, and with some changes in Ramanattam, a new art form came. It is called Kathakali, the cultural icon of Kerala. Krishnanattam is played on all days except Tuesday and practice period (June-Sept)
The biggest offering in the temple is Udayasthamana Pooja, as said above. It is a major offering in almost all the temples in Kerala, but it is at Guruvayoor where the highest number of booking for this takes place. So, udayasthamana pooja at Guruvayur temple at any given moment is already booked for years to come . As the name suggests, this is a dawn-to-dusk pooja. On the days with this offering, there are 18 poojas. Krishnanattam is the second main offering. This offering has 7 stories, named Avatharam, Kaliyamardanam, Rasakreeda, Swayamvaram, Banayuddham, Vividavadham and Swargarohanam. Inspired by Krishnanattam, Kottarakkara Thamburan made another new art form called Ramanattam, which as the name suggests was based on the story of Lord Rama, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. With some changes in Ramanattam, Kathakali, the cultural icon of Kerala, emerged.
