On 22 August 2011, "Nigerian Entertainment Today" reported that Wizkid fathered his first child at age 21. After a thorough investigation, the news source concluded that Wizkid impregnated then-undergraduate student Sola Ogudugu. Moreover, the news source added that multiple sources familiar with the "baby mama" and her family told them that they knew about the relationship between both parties. When the story broke out, close friends and associates of Wizkid didn't confirm the story due to DNA results that were pending at the time. Wizkid broke his silence on the story in several interviews. In an interview with a "Nigerian Entertainment Today" editor, Wizkid denied having a child. According to a behind the scenes video uploaded onto YouTube on May 13, 2013, the recording process started when Wizkid called Femi Kuti's sister and asked her if she could get her brother to collaborate with him. Yeni Kuti said she was shocked and surprised when she got a phone call from Wizkid. When she told her brother, he agreed to work with the young CEO. Femi Kuti said he was busy with "Nigerian Idol" and other projects at the time; he specifically told Wizkid to postpone their recording session. Wizkid and Femi Kuti ended up doing subsequent recording sessions. Wizkid started recording his second studio album after the release of the compilation album "Empire Mates State of Mind" (2012). The album was initially meant to be a mixtape. In an interview with Nonny Orakwue of MTV's "The Wrap Up", Wizkid said that the mixtape would include production work from Rodney Rhymez and Maleek Berry, as well as a guest appearance from Wale.
